Conservation Education in Gunung Halimun National Park
In Gunung Halimun National Park, PEKA Indonesia conducts integrated conservation education, which is centered in the Children’s Library. In this library, activities are conducted such as story telling, slide shows and nature games. The topics of the activities spread widely from the condition of the national park and the problems of loading picture…conservloading picture…ation in Indonesia. PEKA Indonesia also develops a school network to integrate schools and libraries surrounding the national park. This should ensure better harmonization in teacher–student interactions, student-student interactions, teacher-teacher interactions and between different schools in the Halimun area. We linked rural and urban students and designed a model of sharing experiences on environmental issues among them. The interaction also resulted in the collaboration and solidarity among rural and urban schools.
Apart from this, PEKA Indonesia also initiated a teacher network in the Halimun, Salak and Bogor area. This is a promising and powerful network for capacity building and supporting strong links, so that learning from each other takes ploading picture…lace amoloading picture…ng communities of different levels. Activities also included a participatory training for teachers from Subang, Halimun and Salak to develop conservation education modules in order to increase their opportunity for knowledge sharing.
PEKA Indonesia sees also other potential resources in Halimun to be integrated into the conservation education program. Based on assessment and pre-discussion with several actors and institutions, we designed an appropriate model for the development of a conservation education-based eco-tourism. This is a potential way for integrating economic development activities (i.e. guest houses) and conservation education efforts.
With these programs, we hope to achieve results that can be used as a good example for a conservation education program that will be followed by other areas of Indonesia.
Conservation Education in the Cisarua Village of Salak Mountain
PEKA Indonesia’s ‘’school visit program” aims to promote and facilitate the model of environmental education in schools. Beside the activities held in classrooms we also developed several outdoor activities. “Kemah loading picture…konservasi” is a prograloading picture…m followed by 80 children from junior high school and the objectives of this program are to impart the students a better comprehension about their environment. In the school garden they learned how to plant seeds collected in the forest. The school garden is an important skill for making a small bio laboratory in the village of Cisarua.
Since deforestation and destruction of our environment is still growing fast and the education of children is a long process the increasing awareness of protecting the environment and the forest has to happen now. Facing these urgent needs PEKA Indonesia together with the teacher community of Cisarua organized environmental education training for teachers, followed by 25 teachers from several areas around Cisarua.
