Environmental Education Profile
Societies throughout the world have given importance to education since ancient times. There is a wide recognition that educating people is a good investment over the long period. Societies and nations establish educational systems to develop citizens who will behave in desirable ways. The ultimate aim of education is shaping human behavior. Similarly, the ultimate goal of environmental education is to bring about changes in attitudes and behavior patterns of citizens and enable them to act and react wisely in situations involving environmental quality.
Environmental education means the educational process dealing with man’s relationship with his natural and man-made surroundings.
The objectives are to help social groups and individuals acquire an awareness, sensitivity (experiences), attitudes (a set of values and feelings of concern), and skills for identifying and solving environmental problems and/or issues. In addition, the objective is also to provide social groups and individuals with an opportunity to be actively involved at all levels in working toward resolution of environmental problems and/or issues.
